The transformation of wastewater treatment plants from merely pollutants removal to recovery of valuable resources frames (waste) water management in the broader context of the circular economy. The envisaged treatment plants aim at reducing the energy and environmental footprint and at recovering valuable materials that are valued in construction, as well as the chemical and agriculture supply chain. Brazilian and Dutch academics, technology providers end end-users aim for knowledge exchange, heading to a joint research agenda in the field municipal and industrial wastewater management.
In this 2-day workshop, the state of the art on wastewater treatment in the Netherlands and Brazil will be presented and the current challenges will be discussed. Potentials for technology development will play a central role in the presentations from both Brazil and the Netherlands, whereas technology providers and end-users are invited to present their view on the current necessities as well as potential solutions.
